This week, we travel to see Ronchamp, France!

The
Chapel du Notre Dame in Ronchamp is considered by many to be Le
Corbusier's grand masterpiece. Built in 1955, the chapel was always
intended to be used by pilgrims, but today visitors are most likely to
be architects, artists, and scholars. The Ronchamp is an easy drive
from another architectural hotspot - Basel, Switzerland so it is an
great day trip. The vast interior chapel's impressiveness is due in
large part to the deep walls and stained glass windows. The shapes,
colors, and shadows created by sun filtering through the chapel is
enough to mesmorize a non-believer. In order to reach the chapel, you
must climb a large hill, but the trek will surely be worth the effort.
The chapel is open daily to the public between the hours of 9.30 am -
6.30 pm (Spring and summer hours) and 10.00 am - 4.00pm (the rest of
the year). For the ultimate experience, visit early in the morning or
late in the day when the crowds are thinner and the views from the hill
are spectacular.
